CENTRAL North District Bowling Association pennants season is in full swing, although last weekend’s cold snap was a tough challenge.

Kootingal was one club to host a round of pennants play although CNDBA bowls secretary John Coulton said it was “absolutely freezing”.
“Sunday was heaven though compared to Saturday,” Coulton said.
“That was terrible.
“Although we were lucky.
“Our Grade 5 pennants side (West Tamworth) had to go to Guyra.
“One of the guys wrote his name in the snow and sent a picture back to his wife!
“They were shaking the snow off their trouser legs as they walked between ends.”
The West Tamworth Grade 4 and 5 pennants sides “didn’t do so well” but the West Grade 3s, down by half a point to South Tamworth, beat South 6-nil on Sunday to earn a berth in the Zone 3 Grade 3 Playoffs.
“I’m not sure where yet,” Coulton said.
CNDBA’s pennants continue this weekend with final rounds of the Grade 6’s and 7’s.
Grade 6 pennant standings: Werris Creek 21 points, South Tamworth 17.5, Barraba 14, Manilla 7.5.
Grade 7 pennant standings: Group A - West Tamworth 18 points, South Tamworth 5, Kootingal 1. Group B - Werris Creek 13 points Willow Tree 12 points, Quirindi on 5 points. Group C - Barraba 12 points, Tamworth City 10 points and North Tamworth on 8 points.
In summary, West Tamworth will win group A, Werris Creek will win group B and Group C could be won by Tamworth City or North Tamworth.
The District play-offs for Grade 7 will be contested by the winners of each section on Saturday-Sunday May 17-18 at a venue to be advised.
The Zone 3 play-offs for the Grade 7 pennants will be contested at Quirindi on June 14-15.
The final of the District State Presidents Reserve Singles will be played from 9am this Saturday at Werris Creek between West Tamworth’s David Shorten and Neville Williams.
