Its latest family tree-planting day last Sunday attracted about 50 community members who grabbed their gloves and hats to help green the banks of the Peel.
Landcare group member Stephanie Cameron said it was the biggest day they’d had in a long time and they planted 250 trees in three hours. There were also a few celebrations along the way with Inland Technology marking its 10-year anniversary by planting trees.
“They came and helped us on their five-year anniversary, so they came back for their 10th,” Mrs Cameron said.
“They sponsor Northern Inland Academy of Sport, so they had about 30 athletes come and plant trees – they were fantastic.
“They just got in and planted and planted and planted.
“I was really, really impressed that they took time out of their busy schedules to help us plant trees.”
Mrs Cameron said it was a “real honour” to see them give their time.
“It was such a lovely community day with a morning tea,” she said.
“We had a cake to celebrate Inland Technology and Tamworth Urban Landcare Group’s partnership with our president Paul Moxon and Inland Technology partner Peter Ryan cutting it together.”
Inland Technology partnered with the Landcare group to plant 1000 trees along the river this year.
The group’s next tree-planting day is on Sunday, April 5 on the Peel River behind Tamworth Skate Park between 8.30am and 11.30am.
