About 3am on Saturday morning, police found the bodies of a married couple inside their home at a rural property on Target Hill Rd.
A crime scene was established and police from New England Local Area Command examined the scene throughout the day.
The bodies of the man and woman, both aged 64, have been taken for a post-mortem examination to determine a cause of death.
At this stage, police do not believe there was any third-party involvement in the deaths.
Sergeant Dan Betterridge of Armidale Police said the deaths were an “absolute tragedy”.
“It is obviously a serious investigation and the deaths are an absolute tragedy.”
The case is being led by Detective Sergeant Tony Ehsman.
Local detectives are liaising with the NSW Police Homicide Squad.
