BE prepared for a chilly Tuesday with a slight chance of snow fall in parts of the New England region. Local meteorologists say further snow could fall in Guyra today after early falls this morning.
Snow could also be expected to fall at Mount Kaputar, in the region’s west which hit 0 degrees at around 7am.
Guyra residents have said this morning's snow was only a light fall and could not be compared to the surprise snow fall in October last year.
NSW Roads and Maritime Services issued a warning for motorists to be careful on the New England Highway at Black Mountain due to ice on the road.
Residents across the Tamworth and Gunnedah districts woke up to light rain this morning but at 7.30am, no more than 3mm was recorded in the area since 9am Monday.
Moree Bureau of Meteorology officer in charge Michael Glasson said isolated snow showers could be expected in higher altitude areas of the region today.
Top temperatures of six degrees were expected in Armidale, seven in Inverell, Five in Glen Innes, 12 in Narrabri and Moree and 11 degrees in Tamworth.
Isolated rain showers were expected in Tamworth and Gunnedah, south of Narrabri and Barraba.
“They could turn into snow as they move up on the Tablelands,” Mr Glasson said.
“There is slight chance of snow in the high places like Glen Innes, Armidale, Uralla and Walcha, they’re all around 1000m (high),” he said.
Mr Glasson said the sudden weather event of snow and rain was brought on by a “complex low pressure system” along the NSW cough which had brought some strong south west and westerly winds that caused the cold atmosphere across the region.
He said “steady” weather conditions could expected across The Northern Tablelands and North West Slopes and Plains this week with weather conditions between 10 and 20 degrees.
