Sensei Shimazu Kenji is in Australia on a tour to “teach the teachers”.
Yagyu Shingan Ryu was formed about 400 years ago, Phil Hinshellwood told The Leader.
“It’s a school developed by the samurai in 16th-century Japan and been passed down from generation to generation. We have about 16 students in Gunnedah," he said.
“He’s out here to pass on some more of the tradition and techniques.”
