I GUESS this is my biennial letter on the festival, but can I just repeat, in response to Kerry Blinman’s “Bite the bullet – ban non-country buskers” (February 12) that every largish county town is well equipped to hold a music festival.

Kerry states the dilemma pretty well, with her distinction of the music genres – blues, rock, country. She worries that people are staying away because blues and rock etc are at the festival, which I find a bit odd, since I’d have thought anyone could select events to have an exclusively country festival if they wanted to.
But, if she’s right, the question is still whether more people will stay away if blues, rock, and all other genres but country are made unwelcome.
It would be great for the country purists, but I think some other folk would be unhappy if the town with the biggest music festival in the southern hemisphere was Dubbo or Armidale, not Tamworth any more.
