A statesman’s shoes are very hard to fill

WITHOUT a vision the people perish!

The coalition has come forth with a “vision” to develop the far northern regions of Australia and make use of its abundant water. They claim it could provide the nation with food security, and be the bread basket for nations in the Asian region.

Predictably, the naysayers have come forth criticizing the idea. I think it is a splendid idea, and should be robustly debated.

If the Snowy Mountains project hadn’t taken place when it did, in the 1940s and 1950s, it probably wouldn’t get off the ground in these days of the Green Religion that takes every opportunity to make sure that ALL development is arrested before it has a chance to prove itself.

Australia needs statesmen who are concerned about the next generation, and not politicians concerned only about winning the next election.

The shoes of the statesman are hard to fill. Does Abbott have the ability to fill those shoes?
