About 11.30pm, a 25-year-old woman was walking along Manilla Rd at Oxley Vale when a white vehicle similar to a Holden Commodore pulled up alongside her.
The woman got into the car with the male driver, who was the only occupant.
A short time later, the woman asked to be let out of the vehicle and continued walking along the road.
The car, bearing P-plates, again approached the woman. The man got out of the vehicle and forced the woman into nearby bushes.
The man unsuccessfully tried to sexually assault the woman before taking her handbag and leaving.
Police wish to speak with a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries into the matter.
He is described as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance, with a slim build and short hair.
