A fire that engulfed the historic Lansdowne Hotel on Broadway on Friday morning has been contained with no injuries reported.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman said the third floor of the hotel had caught alight just before 8am on Friday.
People were reported to be trapped inside but all were evacuated safely.
Police and paramedics also are at the scene and traffic in the area has been disrupted.
The NSW Transport Management Centre is advising motorists travelling around City Road in Chippendale to expect delays.
"At present, emergency services are currently onsite attending to the blaze. Two of three southbound lanes have been blocked by emergency services," the centre reports.
"One southbound lane (lane 3) remains open, and traffic is slowly able to pass the site of the fire.
"Although one southbound lane remains open, traffic is building in the area, and motorists are advised to avoid travel near this location," it advises.
Citybound traffic on Broadway is also experiencing heavy delays as a result of this fire.
