Luckily for the talented young paceman, the injury was a hairline fracture.
“He’s going to be all right,” a relieved Central North Under 14 co-coach Tony Meppem said yesterday.
“His father rang yesterday and told us Lachlan had had a bat and a bowl and was okay. His doctor had also given him the all-clear.
“It’s great for Lachlan and good for us – he is our fastest bowler and strike weapon.”
The talented young Tamworth allrounder suffered his jaw injury in a Tamworth second grade match last Saturday.
He was to have played in the Tamworth Under 14 side in this week’s Tamworth Under 14 Carnival in Tamworth where he would have been a key player for coach Simon Hood.
“Lachlan got hit by a return from the outfield,” Hood said.
“He was playing for Bective’s second grade side and somehow the ball hit the wicket and bounced up under the grill of his helmet.
“He suffered two hairline fractures.
“It’s bad luck for Lachlan. He would have been one of our main players.”
Hood had more luck yesterday when CNZ Kookaburra Cup captain Ryan Meppem lobbed from Narrabri to guest with his side over the final two days of the Tamworth Under 14 Carnival.
The Kookaburra Cup starts in Tuncurry on Monday.
