Around 190 swimmers and 1100 entries means Sunday’s carnival will be the biggest the club has staged, head coach Greg Poetschka told The Leader this week.
“Last year was a record for us,” Poetschka said.
“We had something like 1040 entries with 181 swimmers but this year we’re up to 1100 entries already,” he said on Monday.
‘We’ll have swimmers from Coffs Harbour and Sawtell for the first time this year. We have them coming from all over the place, as far west as Dubbo, up to Glen Innes and south to Muswellbrook.
“The only local club not coming is Manilla.”
It makes the small Kootingal club one of the top clubs in the region.
“Not bad when anyone who has a state qualifying time isn’t allowed to swim,” Poetschka said.
“It’s a silly rule.
“We do have electronic timing for the first time this year as well.”
He said the Kootingal Moonbi Swimming Club is flourishing too.
“We’ve got the largest membership we’ve ever had. We’re pushing 70 swimmers with about 120 registered.”
He said the club began an eight-week development and introductory course back in August and that attracted another “seven or eight kids”.
Sunday’s carnival will include the regular Dash For Cash events for the Under 10 and 12 and 14 and Over divisions.
