It was, in the words of club secretary-manager Ted Wilkinson, once again another wonderful occasion.
“A great day, yes – we sold out of some beer and some spirits towards the end of the afternoon,” Mr Wilkinson said.
The five-race meeting featured the longest race the club holds each year, the 2000-metre Dooley’s Murrurundi Cup – this year won by Flash Attack.
“It’s an opportunity for the maidens and lower-class gallopers to start in a distance race,” Mr Wilkinson said.
Flash Attack, a five-year-old gelding trained by Quirindi trainer Scott Thompson, finished first with Exotic Fever second and Fantastic Blaze third.
“It’s the only race we run over that distance during the year,” Mr Wilkinson said.
Trackside, the fashionable and the fans made some colourful form too.
Mr Wilkinson said patrons “really enjoyed themselves on the day” and it did not rain, although the 1900-metre track was heavy because of the Christmas Day storms.
The winners of the women’s and men’s Fashions on the Field, Laura Knapman and Sabi Papla, both came from Gunnedah.
