A TAMWORTH quinella was a “nice Christmas present” for Scone trainer Greg Bennett on Monday, even if he doesn’t like having two horses in the same race.

Limitation won the Merry Christmas From The TJC 3YO Country Plate (1000m) from stablemate and fellow first-starter Belannoro.
“It’s a nice Christmas present,” Bennett said.
“Nice to get a one, two.
“It’s good for the owners and good for the stable.
“They’re both first starters so it’s a good result.
“The little girl (Belannoro) got caught wide but that’s the luck of racing, or the bad luck of racing.”
While Courtney van der Werf couldn’t get Belannoro into the best spot to make a charge for the line, fellow apprentice jockey Patrick Lo had to bring Limitation all the way from the back of the field after he got squeezed out of the barriers.
That is typical of the fortunes of racing and, while Bennett doesn’t like being in a race where only one of his charges can win, at least both sets of owners could take something from the day.
“I hate having two horses in a race but it can’t be helped,” Bennett said.
“You always end up with one happy owner and one not so happy owner. But my politics is good enough to keep them all happy.”
Bennett said both fillies were still “a bit green” but Limitation would be given another start as soon as possible. Belannoro is more likely to go back to the paddock for some more work.
“Limitation will go on but the other one, Belannoro, will go back,” Bennett said.
“She’s a little bit immature.
“She’ll be better in the autumn.
“But Limitation will go on.
“She hasn’t got the best front legs in the world so we’ll make hay while the sun shines.”
