The Willow Tree Inn, Walcha Road Hotel and Top Pub at Uralla were all awarded two schooners in the 2013 Sydney Morning Herald Good Pub Food Guide, while Armidale’s Whitebull Hotel snagged one schooner.
They were among 78 pubs across the state to achieve a “schooner rating” from a pool of more than 500 establishments visited by reviewers over the past six weeks.
The top rating on offer was three schooners.
Last year the Walcha Road Hotel took a place among the best with the coveted three-schooner score.
The Willow Tree Inn – which last year was considered to serve the best steak of any pub – held onto its two-schooner rating, while the White Bull Hotel also maintained a respectable one schooner.
But Top Pub must have impressed the judges even more this year than last, climbing from a 2012 rating of one schooner.
Moree’s Royal Hotel was awarded a three-schooner rating last year, but didn’t make it this year.
