Safe landing for light plane at Tamworth Airport

A 90-MINUTE airport emergency ended safely yesterday when a light plane from the BAE flying college landed without incident at Tamworth.

The plane, with two men on board, landed on the main runway at the airport just after 5.30pm after two earlier aborted touch-and-go landings to test the undercarriage and then circling the area and dumping fuel.

The drama began about 4pm when it appeared there were problems with the front wheel carriage. Emergency services monitored the scene and waited on standby while the plane circled.

The regular Qantaslink flights were received and despatched so the runway could be clear for the small plane.

It touched down shortly after without any more problems.
