The awards, held on an annual basis by Tamworth Regional Council, recognise the dedication of players, coaches and sporting administrators in the region.
Award winners will be announced at a function on Thursday at the Tamworth Sports Dome from 6pm.
The event will feature special guest speaker, Chris Houston from the Newcastle Knights rugby league team.
A second rower, Chris has been with the Newcastle Knights since 2008, where he has had occasion to captain the team and made his NRL first grade debut in 2007.
Organisers of the event said Chris’ attendance at the presentation would provide a unique opportunity for attendees to gain sporting insight from a first class athlete.
“The awards presentation is a great way to recognise all the efforts of the region’s large sporting community and having Chris Houston as a guest will add to what is already a very special event,” said council’s business events supervisor Michaela Stevens.
A question and answer forum with Chris will be held during proceedings and he will assist in presenting a number of winners’ trophies.
Awards will be presented across eleven different categories with several highly commended awards to be presented in addition to each category winner.
“We have received a large number of nominations and the judges found it incredibly difficult to determine this year’s winners,” Ms Stevens said.
“All nominees should be incredibly proud of themselves. We certainly have many talented and dedicated sports people in the region.”
The sports awards were established eight years ago to recognise all of the region’s sports clubs and associations and their achievements.
