IF WE as a community are going to somehow establish an animal refuge, the first thing we need to do is to work together.

Imagine my surprise (and disappointment) on reading an article in The Northern Daily Leader on Saturday, October 27, a story by Kitty Hill about a re-homing facility.
Many people will know that I have endeavoured to re-establish such a facility and some months ago I had a long discussion with a woman about what we might or might not achieve.
That includes working with the local RSPCA, a worthy group who quietly go about caring for animals with zero help from the parent body. In the following weeks I organised meetings with our local member Kevin Anderson and Tamworth Regional Council to talk about a refuge, to which I invited the woman to attend, but she chose not to. Although we didn’t come away from these meetings with anything concrete, we did achieve some recognition of the problem and of course had the moral support of council and Kevin Anderson.
Now I read that the woman has got discussions going with council (again) and is proposing something a little bit different from what we originally had in mind.
I too have had much support for a new refuge and appreciate all who have rang, emailed etc. However, if we are going to get a facility, we do need to come to the same table, not go off in a little tangent by ourselves for whatever reason.
As I have said previously, our biggest hurdle is getting a suitable place to begin a refuge – council couldn’t help, although it has land directly adjacent to the local pound.
For the animals sakes, put their interests first!
My main aim is to re-establish a refuge after Jean Medlock’s facility closed down some months ago. However if any readers can help, please contact me on 6765 2624 or mobile 0423 403 529
