NORTH Companions continues to be just one point behind Northern Inland Soccer League leaders North Armidale after a close 2-1 win over Hillvue Rovers on Saturday.

Neither side managed to score in the first half but North Companions’ Brent Moffit made it 1-nil early in the second. The scores were soon level again after Craig Binge kicked a goal for the Rovers.
However North Companions clinched the game with another goal to Moffit.
North Companions coach Andrew McFarlane said he was pleased his side managed to win such a close game.
He said Moffit was one of their best but the man-of-the-match was Les Mozzel.
For the Rovers Craig Binge, Nathan Kasch and Alan Myers played well.
Meanwhile North Armidale weren’t impressive but they did the job in their 2-nil victory over Demon Knights. The win ensured that they remain on top of the competition.
Oxley Vale Attunga and Gunnedah had an exciting nil-all draw at Wolseley Park. Both sides had opportunities to score goals were unable to get the ball into the net.
The man-of-the-match was young OVA goalkeeper Mathew James.
Best players for Gunnedah were Adam Loveridge, Adam Marchant and Stu Cracknell.
South Armidale are now on eight points after they beat Kootingal at Kootingal Oval. The 3-2 victory means they are still a chance of making the semi-finals.
Adrian Zakaris had a good game for South, he kicked all three of their goals in the game.
Goal kickers for Kootingal were Nigel Pepper and Bill Dixon.
In the other NISL game on the weekend UNE/TAS had a 3-all draw with Ex-Services.
