This is an exciting opportunity to join our National Governments and Defence Team as a Design Manager, leading multi-disciplinary design teams, on medium and large estate infrastructure projects within our Buildings and Places (B&P) business.
With more than $75M in revenue in 2020, AECOM Australia ranks within the Australian Defence Magazine (ADM) Top 40 Defence Suppliers, delivering projects across environmental, design, engineering, advisory and project management services. This represents a significant portion of our revenue in Australia, making the National Governments and Defence Market Sector a critical part of our ANZ business.
Building on the success of this Market Sector, the role is for a senior, experienced Design Manager to lead multi-disciplinary design teams on medium and large estate infrastructure projects.
Key attributes to bring to this role are:
Strong experience in the Defence sector and the governance and delivery of estate infrastructure works;
Experience in leading high-level client engagement and development of close relationships across the Defence sector. This includes development of high market visibility and high standards of service delivery to win work sustainably and making a strong contribution to maintaining market position;
A deep understanding of the various engagement and contract forms including Design Services Contract (DSC), Managing Contract (MC), Medium Works, Estate Works, Minor Works and Defence Infrastructure Panels. This includes experience in managing consultancy commissions under these contract forms (specifically the DSC contract) on medium and large estate infrastructure projects;
Experience in design management, and leading multi-disciplinary design teams, on medium and large estate infrastructure projects.
We are looking for a person who comes from a range of possible technical backgrounds and brings experience of project leadership and design management of the full range of technical disciplines required to deliver buildings projects. This role would include managing design delivery and execution of AECOM projects, owning the client relationship through the life of the project as well as sound commercial and contractual management.
You will come from a project management or technical background that could include Architecture, Building Services, Structures or Civil/Structural Engineering and as part of this background have proven experience in Design Management and Project Leadership.
14+ years’ relevant professional experience, across Design Management, Project Leadership and your core discipline.
Experience in Defence Sector - Mandatory.
You will have well-developed communication skills and a track record for delivering projects on time and to budget. Knowledge of the current market for consulting services as well as knowledge of design and construction of buildings will be a requirement.
Your background and experience will enable you to be confident working directly with clients and design disciplines, whilst also being able to roll up your sleeves to deliver. Your proven ability to lead and engage a diverse and geographically dispersed team will see you succeeding in this role.
Relevant tertiary qualifications a must. Existing strong and respected relationships with our key clients will be highly regarded.
You will be an Australian Citizen with existing Defence security clearance or be eligible to obtain this clearance.
