THE INQUEST into the murder of Penny Hill was suspended in Tamworth this morning after the court was told new evidence had come to light in the police investigation.

When the inquest resumed briefly in Tamworth Coroners Court, Magistrate Sharon Freund adjourned the matter to July and assisting Council, Warwick Hunt said police wanted to make further inquiries in relation to "fresh matters."

The matter was also adjourned to issue Penny's former employer Barbara Baigent with a letter of "sufficient interest" meaning the crown and police wanted to ask further questions of her.

Magistrate Freund said whether Mrs Baigent wanted to seek legal advice in relation to the case was a matter for her to decide.

When speaking to the media, officer in charge of the cold case investigation into Penny's murder, Detective Sergeant Jason Darcy wouldn't comment on the specifics of the fresh information but admitted police had received phone calls to Crime Stoppers since the inquest began.

Mr Hunt said the crown also intended to summon former motel employee Deborah Carley from the United Kingdom to provide evidence when the inquest resumed in Glebe on July 3.
