Bob Haling, Peter Virgen, Albie Barwick, Mike Cashman, Ron Farrell and Col Barton have all been selected in the NSW Blues side, with Barwick the skipper for the April 16/17 Carnival.
Narrabri’s Mike Morgan, who was playing for Tamworth on Sunday, has also been selected for the NSW Waratahs.
The Blues side also includes Quirindi’s Terry Cohen and Armidale’s Phil Allen while Armidale’s Graeme Andrews skippers the Waratahs side also including Morgan and Glen Innes’s Tony Corcoran.
At Chaffey Park last Sunday the visiting Hastings/Quirindi combine batted first and was restricted early through some tight bowling before finishing with 95 from its 40 overs.
Tamworth opening bowlers Michael Morgan and Mike Cashman were instrumental in allowing just 17 runs from the first 17 overs.
Quirindi tailenders Jim Stewart (27 not out) and Denis Moran (18) accelerated the scoring rate, with Jeff Perkins (20 retired) adding valuable runs in the middle order.
Morgan spearheaded the bowling, capturing 3-17 from his six overs.
In reply, Tamworth opener Albie Barwick gave his side a good start, retiring with 31 to his name. Good late contributions by Peter Boyd (19 retired) and Cashman (16 retired) saw Tamworth coast to a comfortable 4-109 with 10 overs to spare.
Morgan and Stewart received the man of match awards.
