MY wife and I have spent the past two weeks in Tamworth and as usual have enjoyed our stay.
However, it appears that Tamworth Regional Council may be about to go down the “develop at all costs and to hell with the ratepayers’ wishes” path that so many councils seem to be doing these days.
It is almost impossible to agree with the idea that the beautiful oak trees along King George V Ave should be removed to make way for development – any development, particularly in this age of councils doing everything in their power to stop trees being removed from streets or anywhere else, with hefty fines being the normal consequence for anyone removing trees.
Surely, the council should see that such trees as those along King George V Ave should be left, and in fact nurtured, to ensure they continue to grow and give pleasure to people, instead of allowing the developers to have their way to make as much money as they can and then move on and leave Tamworth the loser for their having been here.
If the development is allowed to progress, maybe some investigation needs to be done to find out how it is being allowed.
