The Matt Hobson-coached side, managed by Bindy Hodgson, is off to the State CHS Under 15 Boys’ Basketball Knockout Finals.
A win over Canobolas High in Orange last week has catapulted the young team into the final eight in the state.
“Well done to all boys involved, Ryan McDonald, Casey MacGregor, Eddie Clements, Jaydon Pryor, Harrison Pettit, Angus McBean, Sebastian Rowe, Brodie Sweeney and Jack Pittman,” Bindy said.
“They are a delightful team to manage. A big thank you to Matt Hobson who is the super coach of the team and gives up his time to support the boys and Pete McDonald who has been a supportive parent and steps into any roll when required as coach, referee and scorer.
“I have had the great pleasure of managing the boys over the past few games and wish them the best of luck in the finals.”
Oxley’s exciting CHS KO season began with a convincing win against Farrer, Bindy said.
“In the second round the boys were up against Peel High School and had another convincing win 64-17. On September 17 we with a long road trip to Coonamble and back the boys had their third win for knockout.
“Then a home game in the Regional Final against Armidale, with exceptional refereeing by Rachael James and with Ainslea Sweeney and Jordon Cotter, in the stressful roll of scoring on the bench, the game went down to the wire.
“Oxley needed to hit a three pointer to level the score with three seconds remaining. The boys had one last play but missed the shot, narrowly going down to Armidale 35 to 38. This minor setback was just a speed bump in the road of the boys progressing through to the final eight in the State Knockout.
“On Sunday, October 28 the boys travelled to Orange for an early start on Monday morning, a 9.30am tip off against Canobolas High School. With the warm up looking promising and consolidated in the first quarter with a 21-8 lead. The boys held strong and finished the game with a 70-45 win.
“A big congratulation to Jaydon Prayor, Ryan McDonald, Casey McGregor and Eddy Clements who were the recipients of the Milky Way Star Award for the most valuable players. The boys are exceptional team-players and all should be congratulated on their efforts so far.”
