A MAN has been charged, accused of defrauding a local sports club of more than $80,000 while he was elected official.

The 29-year-old man is in custody after he was arrested by detectives in Narrabri on Tuesday.
In August last year, Oxley police were alerted to the allegations after a sporting association reported anomalies in its financial records.
Detectives then took charge of the investigation.

After extensive inquiries, police moved in on Tuesday, arresting the 29-year-old accused at a home on Tuesday.
He was taken to Narrabri police station where he was questioned by detectives. He's been charged with five counts of dishonestly obtaining financial advantage by deception; making a false document to obtain financial advantage; and using a false document to obtain financial advantage.
Police will allege in court that that the 29-year-old transferred funds into his personal account.
He's also accused of withdrawing cash, and making purchases at several businesses.
Police will allege in court the man defrauded the association of more than $83,000 between November 2018 and August 2019.
The man has been refused bail to appear at Moree Local Court today on Wednesday.
Police said investigations are continuing.
