A clean up effort is under way after a truck crash closed the Newell Highway near Pilliga on Friday afternoon.

Fire crews were called to the scene 40km south of Narrabri at 2.45pm after reports a truck had crashed and lost its load.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman said crews arrived to find about 200 litres of petrol had been spilled as a result of the accident.
“A group of hazardous materials firefighters from Narrabri are on the scene at the moment and they are laying a blanket of foam to help absorb the spill,” the spokesman said.
“A 300m exclusion zone has been set up around the crash site to allow the firefighters to clean up the spill.
“At this stage, motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.”

“From what we understand after the truck had left the road it has crashed onto its side,” the spokesman said.
“The driver was able to get out of the truck and paramedics were at the scene for treatment.”
The spokesperson said traffic diversions would likely be in place for the remainder of the day.
“Dealing with hazardous materials can be a very time consuming process,” the spokesman said.
“The clean up is on going, but it does take time to ensure it is done properly and given the amount that was spilled in this accident, I would suggest diversions will be in place for some time yet.”
Motorists are advised to expect delays and use the Oxley Highway and Grain Valley Road to join the Kamilaroi Highway.
