North Tamworth hooker Ryan Ingram says the four-time reigning premiers are unfazed by their narrow failure to secure another minor premiership, saying it is the grand final that counts.
He spoke after Norths thumped the Cowboys 72-12 at Dungowan on Saturday in the final round before the finals, but still came up short in the minor premiership race after Kootingal-Moonbi beat the Blues 64-12 in Narrabri on the same afternoon.
At Narrabri, the Roosters beat the Blues 64-12. While at Boogabri, the Kangaroos just failed to post their first win of the season – losing 36-34 to Werris Creek.
“We were unlucky,” said Boggabri coach Shane Rampling.
He thought the Magpies had dropped the ball over the line when they scored to lead Boggabri 36-30 and then the Kangaroos scored again right on the bell with the kick to come.
“Both linesman’s flags went up and then down and the ref ruled it missed,” he said.
“We lost 36-34. It was disappointing. [It] would have been a riot out here if we were playing for a semi-final spot. But it was typical of our season. We’ve lost four close games. If we win those we are in the running for a semi final spot.”
