The event’s early competitions included ladder climbing drills, hose carrying time-trials and team runs.
Fire crews from all over the state descended on Gunnedah from places such as Armidale, Tamworth and Bega.
Senior officials from both government and Fire and Rescue NSW were on hand to help open the event.
Gunnedah mayor Jamie Chaffey was joined by Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson and several high ranking officials from Fire and Rescue NSW to take in the event.
Following a competitors ball at the Gunnedah Services and Bowling Club on Saturday night, day two of the event at Gunnedah’s Wool Shed Reserve will run from 8am to 1pm and will feature a variety of events.
