The three-day event go under way on water-logged fields on Friday, with Tamworth Oztag spokeswoman Pam Potts saying that most Tamworth sides had notched wins.

She said: “I think most teams who have played have all had a win and a loss at this stage.”

“It has been a promising start.”

The women’s under-20 side are the defending state champions, while the  senior mixed team was runner-up at last year’s national championships.

Potts said the women’s under-20 outfit was vastly different to the side that won last year.

“So it will be interesting to see how they go. But they won their first game 9-0, so they’ve done well.”

Also representing Tamworth at the championships are the mixed under-20 side, the open mixed and senior mixed team, the women’s under-35 teams, and the men’s under-30, 40, 45 and 50 outfits.

Potts said it was expected the under-20 mixed and the senior mixed sides would perform well.

The senior mixed side have the the same lineup who finished second at the nationals in Coffs Harbour in November, Potts said.

She added: “We’ve got a few sides that are every chance of making the quarters or semis. It’s just a matter of where they go from there.”
