Students from Tamworth High, Peel High School and McCarthy High worked to complete 13 unique challenges which were designed to stretch their minds and legs around living more sustainably.
The overall winner for the major prize of the $4,000 fully installed solar system was McCarthy High.
More than 30 volunteers from some of Tamworth’s key sustainable living organisations worked with students to design gardens that incorporate solar panels and microclimates, look at improved waste management and mulch and water newly planted native trees.
“Our school children are going to live their lives with a greater need to reduce waste, manage pollution and climate change than any generation before them,” Chair of the Sustainable North West Committee, Stephanie Cameron, said.
The event is sponsored by Tamworth Regional Council to the tune of $5000.
