Oxley High School’s International Food Night is on again for the 36th time, and P&C international night co-ordinator Sarah Dadd said there would be 17 different cuisines on offer.
From Canadian pancakes to Chinese san choy bow, Mrs Dadd said event was a stand-out fundraiser for the school.
“It’s well-priced food and I think it’s the atmosphere as well: it’s a lovely time of year, there’s a lot of people there catching up with lots of friends and family,” she said.
“In life now, there’s very few opportunities where we catch up with people beyond our immediate circles, but this provides an opportunity to meet new people or get to know better those you only know in passing.”
Food and entertainment is provided largely by the students, their families and school staff.

This afternoon in the school kitchens, teacher Irem Mooney and several students were making a Turkish dish called börek, a baked pastry – one filled with mince and onion, the other with spinach and feta cheese.
Mrs Mooney’s grandmother taught her how to make it when she first started cooking for the food nights, and she said she was looking forward to sharing the family recipe again this year.
“I’ve made it for the last 13 years … we’re usually finished pretty quickly because it’s always been pretty popular,” she said.
Mrs Dadd said there would also be Filipino, Sudanese, French, Italian, Greek, Indian, American and Irish dishes, and many more.
The serves are $4 each or 4 for $15, and EFTPOS is available.
The International Food Night runs from 6pm to 9pm Friday at the school.
