Hawks president Gary Lavender said he looked forward to seeing the rebuilt A-grade side in action.
“We’re missing at least eight or so from last year’s side. We’ve re-grouped slowly but we’ll have a competitive first grade side this year,” he said.
The side will be coached by Corey Garrett, who has been with the club for nine years.
The Hawks weren’t able to claim a back-to-back premierships last season, finishing near the bottom of the ladder.
“It’s always tough backing up after a big win like that,” Lavender said.
He said the aim in all grades is to at least make the semi-finals.
“Our first game for the season is against Narwan at home. It’d be great to have some hometown support,” Lavender said.
“Narwan featured in the finals last year, so it’ll be a tough first game … See how we go.”
Lavender added that this year’s league tag side, led by coach Dave Cook, was looking strong.
“I’ve watched them train a few times and from what I’ve seen, Dave’s got them running pretty good. We’re looking real healthy in the girls,” he said.
