Tamworth superintendent Allyn Purkiss told The Leader he was looking to extend the danger period to April 30 with the service’s drought indexes still rating very high late into the season.
It would be the first time the danger period has been extended since 2016, if it’s approved.

Neighbouring Liverpool Range Zone superintendent Tim Butcher said a decision hadn’t been made about extending the bushfire period in his area.
“It’s been very busy since December,” Superintendent Butcher said.
“It was a delayed fire season and it has continued late into the season.
He said fuel loads were lower on managed lands and farms compared to crown lands.
“It is a lot drier than it usually is at this time of the year,” he said.
A fire permit is required for any burning activities during the bushfire danger period.
The restriction came into effect on October 1.
