Gunnedah Shire Council (GSC) resolved to allocate more than $15,000 for the design and installation of the lighting upgrade at the February council meeting.
Councillor Colleen Fuller spoke in favour of the motion at the meeting.
“I am all for this,” Cr Fuller said.
“I think this is a great idea and badly needed.”

GSC’S works manager Richard Baxter said the lighting upgrade will include three new lamp posts that will produce double the lighting output.
“The roundabout upgrade, completed in 2017, was identified as a road safety project through the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program,” Mr Baxter said.
“Three street lamps and masts have since been replaced with more than double the output on each lamp.”
Mr Baxter said community safety was a driving reason for the upgrade.
“The lighting upgrade forms part of GSC’s community strategic plan, which identifies the need to continue to beautify the main street and improve the attractiveness of our urban streetscapes,” he said.
“The lighting upgrade was undertaken to improve the safety of the intersection for both pedestrians and traffic.”
