Hands Are Clean emphasises the importance of never judging people on appearance alone.
The Tamworth Country Music Festival regular and Wauchope-NSW based artist co-wrote the track with Drew McAlister and was initially inspired by Karise Eden, the original Voice Australia winner.
Following Karise’s appearance on Australian Story, where she shared her story of a physical and mental breakdown, Angus was compelled to put pen to paper.
“She spoke about getting tattoos to cover up the scars of self-harm,”Gill said.
“ It just showed to me that you don’t know where people come from or their story and this song has a message that resonates universally.”
“When you point your finger at me, make sure your hands are clean.”
The emerging artist has had a cracker of a year since appearing on Toyota Star Maker.
He enlisted the creative talents of fellow artist and co-manager of Sydney’s Love Hz Studios, Michael Carpenter, to bring the single to cinematic life.
The music video was shot on the streets of the harbour city suburb of Newtown and the now-closed Gladesville Mental Hospital.
Opting to use everyday people for the clip’s characters to keep the very-real topic intact,
“We saw these interesting people on King St in Newtown and we approached them,” he said.
“The other part we shot at the mental hospital, which is very haunted and all the graffiti parts that we shot are inside the remains of the building”.
‘Hands Are Clean’ is the second single from Angus’ debut album “Nomad”, which was released in September 2017. With some of Australia’s finest writers including Adam Harvey, Gina Jeffreys, Luke O’Shea and Kevin Bennett, the 20-year-old artist not only co-wrote all 13 original tracks but also produced and mixed the entire album.
While a new face on the Australian country music scene, Angus is already known for his infectious, yet thought-provoking songs, warm stage presence and trademark sense of humour.
