The Tamworth Little Athletics Club have received $1000 as part of a partnership between the telecommunications company and local little athletics clubs.
Tamworth club president Sam Cox said the funds will help the club immensely, with the money to go towards purchasing new equipment, and upgrading existing equipment.
“Having access to quality, reliable training equipment for our children is vital to helping them perform at their best,” Cox said.
“The partnership with Optus North West will aid us in providing quality equipment that helps our members get active in a fun and safe environment.”
She mentioned possibly some more hurdles and some ‘turbo javs’ “so the younger athletes can learn to do javelin”.
They are a much smaller and lighter javelin.
Things are winding down for the club with only two more competition nights. The final competition for the season will be next Friday (March 16).
Cox said it has been a “really good” season for the club.
“We’ve had some really good results at local carnivals,” she said.
“And we had two athletes that broke records at region.”
The regional championships were held in Tamworth at the start of February and served as a qualifier for the upcoming state championships.
The top three placegetters in each event, bar the under-8s who don’t progress onto state, will now compete at Homebush on March 23, 24 and 25.
Tamworth will be well represented with around 25 athletes qualifying.
