Over the past eight years they have released four records, toured Europe and the USA multiple times, shared stages with Americana and country heavyweights and picked up a string of awards.

But the stories on Some Girls (quite) Like Country Music are ones that have never been told before.

Bryan has described the work as some of the most “adult” the band has ever done together with a real shift in their musical direction.

He told The Leader he was pleased the album was finally out there.

“It’s a good feeling, it’s been a bit of a build up for us,” he said.

“We started making it a long time ago and kind of remade it in a couple of ways.

“It’s nerve wracking putting an album out, the band has become so familiar with the music and then we’ve realised no one else has heard any of this.”

Bryan said the album was kept very much “in house” for the duration of its making.

He said he’s not the type to focus on chart success but instead making good music is what matters.

“I’m not one of those people that really cares about all that,” he said.

“We do want people to buy it but haven’t really thought about chart positions.

“The title of the album is from a lyric of one of the songs – but the line is older than the song.

“It’s an unusual song for us because our guitar player wrote the song.

“That line was something that I came up with ten years ago, I was talking to an ex-girlfriend at the time about country music.

“She said she “quite liked” country music – and that’s where I got the idea.”

He said the band had sold out of the slogan t-shirts before the album was even released.

At the piano for much of the album, Bryan noticed the shift in his own approach as well as that of his collaborators. ‘

“We’re all feeling the weight of being grown-ups now”, he said.

“and it feels natural to write about grown-up things.

“The subject matter changed, and it happened without us even noticing it at first”.

Fans at the Tamworth Country Music Festival were among the first to get a taste of the new music in January this year.
