Jonathan Ian Haines is facing one count of break-and-enter with intent to steal after an incident at a house in Oak Street, Tamworth, on February 27.
Police allege security surveillance shows the 23-year-old trying to force entry before smashing a hole in a rear glass door, sounding an alarm.
Following investigations, Haines was arrested after he tried to run from police in Robert Street on Sunday.
Officers gave chase and found him hiding in a carport of a nearby house.
He appeared in Tamworth Local Court on Monday and was refused bail to reappear later this month.
