Super Rugby products from the North West had no luck on the weekend.
The NSW Waratahs – who had Tamworth’s Paddy Ryan and Glen Innes’ Alex Newsome in the lineup – drew 24-24 with the Sharks in Durban while Quirindi’s Sam Carter and his Brumbies went down 18-10 against the Queensland Reds.
The Waratahs scored three tries in the draw with Sharks with interchange player Mitch Short scoring a late try and Bernard Foley nailing the conversion to lock things up.
Ryan clocked up 52 minutes at prop while Newsome entered the game off the interchange bench and played 40 minutes of the match.
Closer to home, at Suncorp Stadium, the Reds weren’t able to cross for a try against the Brumbies as the boots of James Tuttle and Jono Lance did the trick.
The pair kicked three penalty goals each to register the 18-10 win while the Brumbies crossed for two tries.
Carter pushed through 80 minutes of work at lock in the loss.
