LOOKING for a challenge in Armidale?
The Gyms Challenge is back and certain to start the blood pumping.
The Australian Red Cross Blood Service is calling for everyone to roll up their sleeves and give blood between now and December 14.
As a result, staff and members of participating gyms including SportUNE, Healthy Inspirations, Mick and Colleen’s Fitness Centre, Feel Good, Curves, and Anytime Fitness, are being encouraged to donate blood to help save lives.
SportUNE sports co-ordinator Brad King has been donating blood since he was 18 years old.
“I just went along with a friend one day and that started a lifetime of donating,” the well- known representative and Hillgrove Colts cricket captain said.
“I give whole blood every 13 weeks and plasma every two weeks. It’s a great thing to do and all you need is time.”
In just one hour, the time you spend doing a workout, you can help patients, including people with cancer, mums-to-be and newborn babies.
SportUNE chief executive officer Dave Schmude said “a terrific bunch of people come through our doors and we ask that they support this great initiative”.
“Last year a gym in Wagga Wagga, in country NSW, won the most overall donations for all of NSW/ACT, so there’s no reason why an Armidale gym can’t take out that title this year.
“Statistics tell us that one in three people who work out here at SportUNE will need blood, yet only one in 30 gives blood.”
