Old Boys have already won the Twenty20 and one-day titles – both in convincing fashion – and it would be a major shock if they did not secure the minor premiership after defeating Bective East by 49 runs at Riverside 1 on Saturday.
With one round remaining before the finals, they are 14.41 points ahead of second-placed West Tamworth.
Middlebrook said: “We haven’t had many seasons where we’ve won everything. This year we’ve got an opportunity to do that.”
Tellingly, he believes that Old Boys can get “a lot better”. “It would be great if we took all our chances one day,” he said.
On Saturday, Old Boys defended 197 by dismissing Bective for 148 in 57 overs.
Ahead of the start of day two, with Bective 5-58, Bulls captain Adam Jones had called on teenage batsmen Lachie Barton and Coby Cornish to deliver the side the win. That did not happen, with Barton making six and Cornish 17.
Aaron Hazlewood was the pick of Old Boys’ bowlers, with 3-43 off 25 overs, while Jason Stacpoole (2-21) and Troy Sands (2-31) did most of the damage on day two.
Jones said last-placed Bective were a mathematical chance of making the final, but would need a big win over Wests in the final round and then hope other results went their way. They are 10.5 points behind fourth-placed City.
