About 4.20pm on Saturday, a Toyota Hilux and a Nissan X-Trail collided on Werris Creek Road, Duri.
A passenger in the X-Trail, a man aged 54 years, died at the scene.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
The Hilux had been travelling south and the X-Trail heading north when the collision happened.
The two drivers were taken to Tamworth hospital to be treated for injuries that were not life-threatening: the 17-year-old boy who’d been at the wheel of the Hilux, and the 70-year-old man who’d been driving the X-Trail.
Police from Oxley Police District are making inquiries into the crash, and were unable to give The Leader any further details today.
Country road horror
The Duri area has been the site of several crashes – some fatal – in recent years.
In July last year, 19-year-old Shonae McCabe died after her car veered off Werris Creek Road, 2km south of Duri.
In September 2016, a 43-year-old male motorcyclist died on the same road in a collision between his bike and a car.
And in April 2016, a two-vehicle crash on Werris Creek Road just north of the village claimed two lives, including that of Buddy Nean, 32.
