The Group met on Tuesday night to finalise the draw and while question marks remain around Walcha’s entrance into the competition, the clubs put their thoughts forward on the draw drafted last week.
With the opening game on April 7-8 an away game for the Spuds, Guyra’s first home match will be in round two on April 14-15 against Uralla.
Super Spuds secretary Mick Shiner said the club are looking forward to taking the field after a hiatus last year.
“I have a couple of things I have to send away to [Group 19 president] Terry Carson in the next little while because we have a standalone game at the end of the year,” he said.
“I think you will find there will be some Friday night football played and lots of Saturdays.
“Hopefully we can get a couple of Friday night games at Guyra, I know Uralla are keen and we have them the second round and hopefully we can make that a Friday night game, our first home game, I think that will go really well.”
Shiner said players have been turning up to training but is hoping number will increase as the season draws closer.
“Big numbers for the girls, the boys are still a bit lumpy but if you could get more to training at the one time it would be good,” he said.
“We are around that nine or 10 at training but they are a different nine or 10.
“We should manage our squad, it will be tight for us but hopefully we will have that squad of 20-odd and we should be able to sneak through.”
As for the rest of the clubs, Shiner is expecting second division to be a hard-fought competition.
“I think it is going to be a tough and competitive little comp,” he said.
“Warialda is going to be strong, Bingara might be a little bit of a surprise packet too, Uralla will be strong.”
