The Randwick trainer, who has trained almost 250 winners since starting in 1972, is also a mentor for Drugs and Alcohol for RacingNSW.
Webster helps out where he can, talking to individuals and groups about the relevant issues.
Sometimes it can be just a quiet word with someone in the racing industry doing it tough – at other times it can be speaking at events such as workshops.
There is also another program called Racing Mates that Pat loves to be a part of. He also loves raising funds for charities like Kids With Cancer.
So when the Quirindi Jockey Club asked if he would be its special guest for the 2018 Cup meeting on February 16, where the QJC will raise funds for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, he jumped at the chance.
He said: “My role with RacingNSW is to help people who have had tragedies. Or if they need help and just need to talk to someone, I try and help them.”
He said last year’s death of Tamworth jockey Darren Jones in a race fall at Warialda showed how much the racing industry can band together. Webster will speak at the QJC’s Akubra Cup calcutta at the Quirindi RSL Club on February 15.
He will talk about his Group 1 winning champ, Happy Clapper, and some of his fondest racing memories that began in 1967 as an apprentice jockey. He will also talk about the charities such as Black Dog and Kids With Cancer. “It does give me a chance on the night to talk about the charities that we need,” he said.
