This year’s Deepwater Cup was dominated by Inverell trainers, so it was only fitting the winner of the feature race was from the town.

The Bill Perrett-trained Cavitation, ridden by Geoffrey Snowden, claimed the win, 0.73 lengths in front of fellow Inverell horse in Luke Berger’s Racecraft.
Snowden said he and the trainer worked out a strategy which paid off.
It's always nice to win the feature race on any program whether it be at Randwick or Deepwater.
“We had a bit of a plan before the race and it panned out just nice. We got to do what we wanted to do so it worked out good,” he said.
“He got away good and we wanted to try and sneak away and get a bit of a break on them before we got into the straight, and that's how it panned out and they didn't catch us.
“The two I thought were chances. They come home strong and that's why we thought if we could get away from them. They would have to catch us rather than us trying to go with them.
“They didn't actually finish the race off as well as I thought but that was to my advantage.”
The recovery took longer than expected and he only made his way back to the track in November 2016.
Since then he has ridden 11 winners – eight since September – at various tracks around the region.
It’s Snowden’s third Deepwater Cup win and he said no matter the ranking of the race, it is always good to win the main event.
“It's always nice to win the feature race on any program, whether it be at Randwick or Deepwater,” he said.
“To win the feature race, usually the Cup or the Open Handicap in some fashions, is always good.”
Snowden and Perrett will combine once again on Thursday in Tamworth with Clipaholic nominated for the Benchmark 60.
