Bright futures for high achievers

A PROUD history of academic achievement continued at The Armidale School over the past year.

Highlights included:

  • Two students on the All Round Achievers list
  • An ATAR of 99.45 in the Higher School Certificate for school dux Flynn Ihle
  • Thirteen students achieving Australian Tertiary Admission Rankings above 90 and 18 students achieving 47 Band 6 results in a record 20 subjects

Flynn, a boarder from Tenterfield, is confident he will be accepted into his course of choice at the University of Queensland.

“Getting over 99 means I’ll probably get into medicine providing I pass my [Undergraduate Medicine and Health Sciences Admission Test] exam,” Flynn said.

“But I’m also quite interested in veterinary science, a Bachelor of Advanced Finance and Economics or a Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics which I didn’t think I’d get into, so I have plenty to think about.”

Fellow All Rounder Samuel Thatcher, who secured 98.4, is also looking at studying a Bachelor of Politics, Philosophy and Economics at the ANU.

Headmaster Murray Guest said the results reflected an increased strategic focus on academic culture.

This year, the school will introduce the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program, extend opening hours for the library until 9pm and offer more after-hours tutorials.
