Central North suffered their third loss in as many games at the under-16 carnival, going down heavily to Central Coast at Watson Oval, All Saints College, on Wednesday.
After winning the toss and batting, Central North were dismissed for 80 after 38 overs of the 50-over clash.
Central Coast passed the total in the 18th over. They lost three wickets.
Opener Adam McGuirk top-scored for Central North with a 37-ball 24.
The side concludes their campaign against Illawarra at Morse Park No.2 on Thursday.
Central North manager Kel Walls said poor shot selection was “probably” the main issue facing the side.
He said: “We’ve been talking about why we haven’t been able to post competitive scores.
“The first day was okay [9-154 in a loss to North Coast] … But nobody has gone on and made a big score. That’s probably the biggest thing.
“A few have started but nobody has gone on and made 80 or 100 or even 50.
“Other than our poor shot selection having brought some undone, we don’t think there’s anything else [contributing to the poor scores].”
“[Although] our bowling hasn’t particularly been out of the box,” he added.
Walls said the poor shot selection could partly be attributable to a lack of experience playing quality spin.
He said most of the eight teams at the carnival had a handful of good spinners.
“In a lot of the country areas the [Central North] boys come from, there’s no quality spinners,” he said, adding that the issue will be dealt with through off-season development programs. He added: “I guess a positive to come out of today [Wednesday] and yesterday was the fielding and bowling were fantastic. Lots of energy in the field and some real quality bowling defending small totals.”
