The 56-year-old man cannot be identified for legal reasons but remains in custody, following his arrest in Tamworth in November last year.
The Leader can reveal detectives from Strike Force Duncansby – the police operation launched in 2017 by Oxley detectives to investigate historical allegations of sexual and indecent assaults – charged the man earlier this month.
Oxley Chief Inspector Phil O’Reilly told The Leader following further inquiries, police had charged the man with three new offences.
Police will now allege in court the man sexually abused three young girls.
“Detectives from Oxley Local Area Command have charged a 56-year-old man with further offences relating to historical sexual assaults in the North West,” he said.
“The new charges are as a result of further investigations by investigators from Strike Force Duncansby.”

The man is facing one new charge of sexual assault category three knowing no consent given, carnal knowledge and commit act of indecency on female under 16 years.
The three charges were the offences in place at the time of the alleged offending in the North West area, but much of the detail surrounding the alleged offences cannot be reported for legal reasons.
The 56-year-old is yet to enter pleas to three charges of aggravated sexual assault of a person under the age of 16 and one count of aggravated indecent assault of a person under 16, with detectives alleging he sexually abused a young girl between 2011 and 2013.
He was arrested in a Tamworth shopping centre on November 23.
In December, the man was refused bail in Tamworth Local Court after magistrate Roger Prowse found he had not shown cause to justify his release, following a bail application spanning three days.
The man is due to return to court later this month, with detectives currently preparing a brief of evidence in relation to the charges.
