For South Tamworth veteran Troy Osborne the most pleasing aspect of the side’s one-day win over City United at Riverside 1 on Saturday was not his man-of-the-match display. It was Souths’ ability to again get the job done without Tom Groth and Tom O’Neill, who were away on NSW Country duty.

They were also absent when Souths rolled Old Boys the previous round. In that match, Blake Fitzgerald stepped up and made 77.
On Saturday, Osborne stepped up – top-scoring with 46 and then bagging three wickets as Souths defended 120 by dismissing City United for 108.
Osborne said: “We’ve got a very good squad … it’s good to have the amount of players that we do and the depth to be able to continue to play as well as we are.” He added: “It’s good to get the individual score but the boys did really well together.”
After winning the toss and batting, South Tamworth never recovered after losing opener Josh Crowe and No.3 Fitzgerald with the score on 17. Along with Osborne, only two other players reached double figures – Brock Morley (14) and skipper Brad Smith (11).
City were travelling okay early at 2-48. But they then lost captain Brad Smith and Aaron Howard (both for ducks), top-scorer Dan Whale (33) and Lachlan Cooke (1) to slump to 6-62.
Angus McNeil claimed 3-28 off seven overs for Souths.
