A MAN will front court later this month after he was allegedly caught driving at more than three times the legal limit.

Police stopped the 49-year-old male on Brisbane Street, near the intersection of Peel Street, at about 8pm, for a random breath test.

The man failed a roadside breath test and was arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station where he allegedly recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.166.

He was charged with high-range PCA and had his licence suspended.
