A book by Australian legend Richie Benaud.
About two years ago at a representative cricket carnival, Maggs witnessed an opposition player who was “killing every single team” with his leg spin.
Maggs just had to ask how the leggie had honed his skill.
“He said he read a book on how to bowl leg spin,” Maggs said.
And Maggs thought “why not?”, he’d give leg spin a crack and he tracked down the book by Richie Benaud.
“I picked it up from there. It took me a couple seasons to get going but once I did, I started taking a few wickets,” Maggs said.

- Will Maggs on his leg spin bowling efforts
Maggs has started taking slightly more than a few wickets for Albion in the Gunnedah District Cricket Association first grade competition.
He sits in the top five of the wicket-takers list in both one day and two day competitions this season – he has 17 in total – and best figures of 4-17.
Maggs is happy to be able hold his own.
“It’s been pretty good, [I’m getting] getting a few wickets,” Maggs said.
“It’s been good getting moved up to first grade and being able to pull my weight in the team and get the job done.”
With his bowling, Maggs has been using less flight during games – “If I toss it up to good batsmen, I’ll get carted a lot more,” Maggs said – and is also working on a wrong 'un which isn’t quite ready to be used in matches regularly.
However, the one aspect of his game he desperately wants to improve is his batting.
“I’d like to get a bit better at batting,” Maggs said.
“Instead of being a tail-order batsmen, [I want to be] more middle order. [I want to] help out a bit more and be more of an all-rounder.”
Maggs and his Albion teammates will return to the cricket fields on Saturday for the first day of a two day match.
Albion will take on Mornington at Wolseley Park.
The other match will see the Kookaburras take on Court House. Both Mornington and Kookaburras are searching for their first win of the season.
TWO-DAY LADDER
